How does that happen?

I have been fortunate during my 25 years in medicine to experience both first hand and through the accounts of my patients to have seen truly amazing things. I have always been particularly drawn to "the mystical", mysterious things that happen to people in the course of trying to get better.

My first experience of this type of phenomenon occured to me after my first acupuncture tratment.
Subjectively, I did not notice a difference in how I felt. However, I went to play basketball right after the treatment and amazingly to me, I was completely "in the zone" without any explanation. I went from my usual of being a very average player to being "great for the day" making 5 three point shots in a row to start the game. When I settled down to earth and tried to understand this miracle, I could only attribute this transcendent performance to my acupuncture treatment.

Since then, I have always been curious and drawn to the ability to transfer energy from practitioner to patient. I have witnessed this in a wide variety of modalities including acupuncture, massage, physical therapy, craniosacral therapy and energy work. Yesterday, I was again fortunate enough to be the recipient of such a gift as I worked with a visiting physical therapist. Her name is Kim Burnham. She is visiting Mission Hills Physical Therapy from her home in Connecticut. She practices Integrative Manual Therapy(IMT) and Matrix Energetics--modalities within the realm of physical therapy but techniques which rely on energy transfer(as opposed to structural manipulation or strengthening of muscles).

I knew as I went through the experience that this was no average therapist. I could feel things happening in my body as we went through the proceess. When I stood up at the end of the session, I was different. My feet met the floor in a different way. I was more grounded. When I walked, I was sturdier and able to move with much less effort and energy. I went home and went for a real walk and the changes persisted. Subtle but noticeably smoother. My herky-jerky gait was quieter, smoother, less neurologic.

I don't know yet whether these changes will stick. I pray they do but I have re-learned that there is a whole world of things I don't understand. I realize(again) that miracles can happen and that if I don't understand the physiology or mechanism, it does NOT matter. What matters is getting better, progressing and moving forward. Thank you Kim and thank you world for showing this rigid, stiff man that there is so much more to this life than what I understand. Thank you Ralph Havens for being a visionary and always open to new ways to help people heal.

Paolo Zamboni has offered the world a new approach to the treatment of multiple sclerosis. It is radical in that the theory breaks from the way the medical world has viewed this disease for the past 50 years. Matrix energetics and IMT are also a break from standard physical rehabilitation. I am sure these fields must also face disbelievers and naysayers. Thank God that there are individuals who can look into the eyes of their doubters and simply look back into their own hearts and minds and follow what they believe.

It's Julie here,
Ralph Havens and Kim Burnham have worked their magic on me. After they finish, I balance better and it is easier for me to walk. I even went to a talk that Kim gave on the brain. She specializes in this area and is quite informative. You could clearly tell that she speaks from her heart and it is her passion. This is the same for Ralph.
Thank you for setting up the appointment for the neuroradiologist to look at my veins. I appreciate that you took the time to call him. I am interested in seeing if he sees anything the other radiologist did not. I read your blog every day and learn what you can do now and what you could not do before. I feel your new energy in your words.

IT'S HAPPENING

Wow, the information available on CCSVI on the internet is truly amazing! I have to admit: I did not research this topic as well as I could have. I did not read the study from Poland before my procedure. I did not realize all the excitement combined with incredible knowledge that is coming out of Georgetown. I am just reading them now and I can hardly contain myself. There is so much data available on CCSVI from around the world. I acted more on a deep gut feeling that CCSVI was real and was my path to healing. I was a little desperate as I felt myself sliding over the last year and didn't feel right with the auto-immune drugs. CCSVI just made sense to me; really good sense. Now reading the data, I am so excited for huge numbers of people to get healed/opened/freed! After doing a little research, it seems that nearly all people with definite MS have CCSVI. It also seems that people with MS who have the procedure have less flairs over time and a better quality of life. Some get a lo...

$$$

I received my bills this week. $ 32,000 for the Liberation Procedure. $1200 for MRV. Amazingly, my insurance(Blue Cross) covered all but $5000 of the total. I feel so fortunate that it was largely covered. I have sat on Utilization Review Committees(when I worked at Scripps) and thought the insurance company would deny coverage based on the experimental nature of the procedure. Luckily for me, I was wrong! I guess they just cannot deny need for treatment of blocked blood vessels.

Liberation

It is now 3 days after "Liberation Day". Sunday afternoon 12:30 pm. February 28th, 2010. Three days ago, Dr. Mohsin Saeed at Scripps Clinic opened my left jugular vein with angioplasty and my right jugular vein with angioplasty followed by a stent. The procedure is called by its inventor, Dr. Paolo Zamboni, The Liberation Procedure. It is a revolutionary treatment for an old, disabling disease -- Multiple Sclerosis. Until about 3 months ago, the only theory I knew about MS was that it was an autoimmune disease which attacked and destroyed myelin, the external coating around nerves. For unknown reasons, nerve conduction was slowed while plaques formed in the brain. It was always unclear why or when attacks would happen but they did and were difficult to control. Modern medicine responded with anti-inflammatory drugs and immune suppressants following the line of reasoning that if the disease was caused by an immune response, then stopping the immune response would stop the dise...
