Patience or Action

I was reading last night on the website ThisisMS. Incredibly informative and up to date with a wide variety of information and "cutting-edge" theories. MS truly is a condition that is receiving strong attention from every direction. While I believe I have been part of the "new truth" of MS, there are many other views and people who believe in their approach/path with every bit as much passion and belief as I do about my healing road.

There is a vaccine made from an ingredient of goat's milk, low dose Naltrexone, the new drug which aids walking by a unique mechanism. There is still strong belief in anti-inflammatory drugs like interferon, Tysabri and newer creations which can be taken orally. There is truly a lot out there and patients are getting benefit. The CCSVI theory is still in its infancy and far from accepted by the medical community. Yesterday, I spoke with a very kind woman with MS who tried to get the MRV done and instead had an MRA(magnetic resonance angiogram) done and it was read by a radiologist who had never heard of the CCSVI theory and did not look at her veins when reading the study. How utterly disappointing.

Where do we go from here?? Time is definitely needed to allow the new discoveries like CCSVI be studied, contemplated, and incorporated into the world view of the medical establishment. However, time is not a friend of someone who is living in a declining body. Tomorrow feels like an eternity to someone who is struggling. A clean formulated plan is needed now/today for individuals who feel stuck in an unfaithful body. The paradigm shift that I believe is happening needs time and strong spokespeople to bring it to fruition.

I feel excited when I sit back and ponder new roads to healing but at the same time I feel handcuffed and limited when I attempt to guide my fellow MS travellers on their road back to health and healing. I guess this is the paradox of living in the modern world which is exploding with potential but simultaneously landlocked by old views and slow progress.

I was on the phone with the director of the imaging center this morning. He said that I did have the MRV but will do my neck and jugular again without any charge. He said he would do it without contrast. What exactly did you have done? He has done thousands of tests but never has done what you are asking for. He is going to do the procedure himself on me. He is very kind and wants to do it the way you say. He also did not know about the Liberation Treatment. His name is Mr. Omen.

IT'S HAPPENING

Wow, the information available on CCSVI on the internet is truly amazing! I have to admit: I did not research this topic as well as I could have. I did not read the study from Poland before my procedure. I did not realize all the excitement combined with incredible knowledge that is coming out of Georgetown. I am just reading them now and I can hardly contain myself. There is so much data available on CCSVI from around the world. I acted more on a deep gut feeling that CCSVI was real and was my path to healing. I was a little desperate as I felt myself sliding over the last year and didn't feel right with the auto-immune drugs. CCSVI just made sense to me; really good sense. Now reading the data, I am so excited for huge numbers of people to get healed/opened/freed! After doing a little research, it seems that nearly all people with definite MS have CCSVI. It also seems that people with MS who have the procedure have less flairs over time and a better quality of life. Some get a lo...

$$$

I received my bills this week. $ 32,000 for the Liberation Procedure. $1200 for MRV. Amazingly, my insurance(Blue Cross) covered all but $5000 of the total. I feel so fortunate that it was largely covered. I have sat on Utilization Review Committees(when I worked at Scripps) and thought the insurance company would deny coverage based on the experimental nature of the procedure. Luckily for me, I was wrong! I guess they just cannot deny need for treatment of blocked blood vessels.

Liberation

It is now 3 days after "Liberation Day". Sunday afternoon 12:30 pm. February 28th, 2010. Three days ago, Dr. Mohsin Saeed at Scripps Clinic opened my left jugular vein with angioplasty and my right jugular vein with angioplasty followed by a stent. The procedure is called by its inventor, Dr. Paolo Zamboni, The Liberation Procedure. It is a revolutionary treatment for an old, disabling disease -- Multiple Sclerosis. Until about 3 months ago, the only theory I knew about MS was that it was an autoimmune disease which attacked and destroyed myelin, the external coating around nerves. For unknown reasons, nerve conduction was slowed while plaques formed in the brain. It was always unclear why or when attacks would happen but they did and were difficult to control. Modern medicine responded with anti-inflammatory drugs and immune suppressants following the line of reasoning that if the disease was caused by an immune response, then stopping the immune response would stop the dise...
