At the core of an empowered approach to health and well-being is what we believe. We can wish for good health or attempt to make positive changes but what really matters is what thoughts dominate our consciousness and whether we believe in ourselves. For example, if I plan to quit smoking but know that cigarettes are my "go-to" stress-reducer and I can't really imagine myself as a non-smoker, than I am doomed from the start. How do we change our thoughts and beliefs so that they line up with what we desire for ourselves so that we can have the outcome we desire?
Herein lies the the great challenge of being human. Ingrained habits are very hard to break. However, empowerment comes with creating change from inside. Here is where our thought patterns and beliefs come critically into play. If we believe that "I am weak" or "I can't handle stressful challenges" or "I am not worthy of being happy", then we create a life with those defining beliefs driving the bus and change rarely evolves.
So how do we stop believing what we were trained to believe and come to believe healthier, more empowering guiding principles? First, we have to become aware of our banter in our heads. Next, we have to choose to follow a different voice or path. Our behavior will follow our thoughts and beliefs. The key to change is thinking from a different place (what we do in Center Point Rest or meditating) and going into the body. By accessing the body (as opposed to the thinking mind), we are literally coming face to face with a new avenue as opposed to the well-worn path. Combining this with accessing strong support from friends or others who share our vision for change and are willing to be our partners in manifesting something new, creates a momentum leading to newness and the breaking of old habits. Lastly, by changing our brain and body chemicals with new activities and thoughts, we create a "new" us that can break off the "groove on the record" and onto new ground.
This is not easy but it can be done. It invokes a different approach than old-fashioned will power. It is more powerful and leads to greater success. It all starts with choosing to believe in yourself.
