The journey back from illness and injury begins with the first step. Often, this is a visit with one's doctor. Other times, it is the moment after "hitting rock bottom" and one decides that misery and suffering are not the paths which one is going to take anymore and a decision is made to make changes. It can also come with the advice and guidance of a good friend or guide. In any case, it may be assisted by another but the momentum changes only when an individual makes the decision to get well. The intention changes; commitment is made; and doors finally begin to open. What follows is nothing short of miraculous. I believe it best summarized by the following quote by Goethe:
Begin It Now
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.
Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and plans:
That the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred.
A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever, you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has Genius, Power and Magic in it.
Begin it now!
So it is with healing. The initiative comes from inside the individual. Each person may need to go through his or her own process. Some may need to forgive another or forgive themselves. Some may need to get a medical procedure to initiate the process (i.e. bypass surgery or chemotherapy). Some may need to garner the love and support of others, to finally trust their value and worth. Compassion, love, comraderie walk you to the door but Providence changes when one commits to healing oneself. Many steps may precede the decision (i.e. return of self-love, regaining a purpose for living, letting go of old wounds). The actual commitment can happen in seconds or minutes or it can take years or decades or lifetimes. Each person has his or her own path.
